League Coming To City

Due to the departure of Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunder, fans are left questioning what the new season will bring.

Perhaps, Ice Cube’s Big 3 League coming to town can help provide a much needed distraction.

The Big 3 League will visit the Chesapeake Arena on Sunday, July 21, featuring the Aliens vs. the Ghost Ballers, the Ball Hogs will face the Killer 3’s and Trilogy will battle the Enemies.

Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Approaching the third year of existence the Big 3 will make its first stop in Oklahoma City, and its second stop ever in Oklahoma.

During the inaugural campaign, the Big 3 League made an appearance in Tulsa at the Bank of Oklahoma Center in 2017.

The Big 3 features a 3-on-3 style of play, rather than the NBA’s model of 5-on-5

Much-like secondary football leagues, the Big 3 does not possess the same following as the NBA, but it’s not supposed to because it is vastly different. With that said, the BIG 3 is not lacking star power or players with ample personality.

Former Thunder forward Perry Jones III is a member of the Enemies; who are one of three expansion teams joining the BIG 3 for the 2019 campaign.

Jones is the youngest player in the Big 3.

The season lasts for the duration of the summer months, as it is made up of an 11-week campaign, including the playoffs and finals.

Week I kicks off June 22 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, which is home to the Pistons.

The season will conclude on Sept. 1 inside the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

In the first two years, the Big 3 would visit one city per week, playing four games.

With the addition of three expansion teams, the Big 3 now visits two cities per week with six teams playing three games in each city.

Basketball used to be confined to a sixth month time period.
